First Responder Operations Courses
This course is required for all employees who work directly with hazardous materials and may respond directly to a spill. The course offers an in-depth look at hazardous materials in hospitals and spill response tactics.
Department of Transportation Training
This course is required for all employees involved in your facilities hazardous waste process including packaging, documentation, and signing of shipping documents. This course offers an in-depth look at the hazardous waste generation process within a medical facility and the shipping documents/procedures associated with transport.
First Responder Awareness Courses
This course is required for all employees who work indirectly or around hazardous materials. This course offers a general overview of hazardous materials in hospitals and the spill response process.
HAZWOPER, First Receiver, and Other Courses
Whether you’re facility requires a 40hr HAZWOPER, a HAZWOPER refresher, a first receiver hazmat training for your ED, or any other facility specific training HST is more than happy to customize a curriculum, provide an effective training, and exceed your expectations.
First Responder Operations (FRO)
Who needs this course:
Per 29 CFR 1910.120(q)(6)(ii) all personnel that are tasked with or have the possibility to respond directly to a hazardous materials spill are required to receive this training. Common departments for this training include environmental services, facilities, security, lab, OR, and ED.
What does the course cover:
The course ensures that your employees have the ability to safely and effectively respond to hazardous substance spills. This is accomplished by education on hazardous substances, proper use of personal protective equipment, common hazmat response tactics, and the review of your facilities policies and procedures.
Course Objectives:
· An understanding of what hazardous substances are, the dangers associated with them, and risk assessment techniques.
· Ability to identify hazardous substances utilizing multiple resources.
· Recognize the need for additional resources and understand the role of proper notification and communication.
· Perform control, containment, and decontamination procedures.
· Understand your facilities hazardous substance policies and procedures.
Timeframe:
This is an 8 hour course.
First Responder Awareness (FRA)
Who needs this course:
Per 29 CFR 1910.120(q)(6)(i) all personnel that are likely to discover or witness a hazardous substance release are required to receive this training. Common departments for this training include environmental services, facilities, security, lab, OR, and ED.
What does the course cover:
The course ensures that your employees have the ability to safely and effectively secure an incident site and properly notify facility safety personnel. This is accomplished by education on hazardous substances, identification of hazards, and the review of your facilities policies and procedures including communications.
Course Objectives:
· An understanding of what hazardous substances are, the dangers associated with them, and risk assessment techniques.
· Ability to identify hazardous substances utilizing multiple resources.
· Recognize the need for additional resources and understand the role of proper notification and communication.
· Understand your facilities hazardous substance policies and procedures.
Timeframe:
This is a 4 hour course.

Department of Transportation Hazmat Employee (DOT)
Who needs this course:
49 CFR 172.704 requires any employee who handles hazardous materials, prepares hazardous substances for shipment, or is expected to sign hazardous waste manifests (uniform hazardous waste manifests, medical waste manifests, bill of ladings containing hazmat) to receive general awareness training. Common departments for this training include environmental services, facilities, and safety management.
What does this course cover:
This course is designed to allow your employees to identify hazardous substances, properly handle and package hazardous substances, ensure the safety and security of hazardous substances at your facility, and audit/sign hazardous waste manifests.
Course objectives:
· An understanding of what hazardous substances are, the dangers associated with them, and risk assessment techniques.
· Ability to identify hazardous substances utilizing multiple resources.
· Properly handle and package hazardous substances in accordance with DOT regulations.
· Ensure the safety and security of hazardous substance storage sites at your facility.
· Understand, effectively audit, and properly sign hazardous materials manifests and ensure their delivery to the appropriate personnel.
· Understand your facilities hazardous substance policies and procedures.
